Yesterday was a game that had just been building up in anticipation between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers and wouldn't you know, leave it to the great northwest to make it have a delay of an hour due to lightning in the area. The referee called for the delay just after 6pm. Play resumed about an hour later.
Lightning flashes and thunder were noted around the stadium during the Seahawks' offensive possession just before the delay was announced. The lightning continued for much of the delay, but let up around 6:45 pm just as players were coming on the field. Seattle went on to win 29-3. It was the second delay in CenturyLink Field history. On Dec. 14, 2006, a Thursday night game between the Seahawks and 49ers had its start delayed by just a few minutes after a heavy rainstorm caused parts of the field to bubble.
