The most popular snack at Wimbledon is strawberries and cream. The tournament brings in an estimated two million berries and 1,820 gallons of cream each year to satisfy hungry spectators. The official tournament strawberry is of the Elsanta variety. Legend says King George V brought strawberries and cream to Wimbledon. However, an older account suggests that the fruit, like tennis, symbolizes the arrival of summer, which is why it is served at every Wimbledon.
Yesterday Serena Williams won the Women's Final, the 9th time in 11 years that a Williams name has been placed as the winner. Quite a dynasty to be sure. The men's final was this morning and Rafael Nadal claimed his second Wimbledon crown and eighth Grand Slam title overall. I must share that strawberries were part of my breakfast this morning as was a banana along with iced coffee and cereal.
So up next is the making of the potato salad for tonight's festivities up at Jodie and Rob's place. Just taking it slow and steady as I enjoy the holiday weekend. Did get the journal box emptied and reallocated and now will use that tub to consolidate the miscellaneous holidays. Oh the fun of puttering and not having to be anywhere fast. Yes, it is summer in the city.
