The sights and sounds of the Chinese New Year are so stimulating and different from anything else I have experienced. I lived down in the International District (or China Town as the locals call it still) for 7 years this was a time of a lot of partying going on. Tonight will be a bit calmer with Damon and I enjoying Chinese food to mark the occasion.
Uwajimaya was one of the busiest stores at this time of the year as shelves were stripped of a lot of favorite festive foods. The sheer volume was amazing to watch. I often had to plan carefully going and coming from the complex as parking became a real challenge.
This is the year of the horse. In recent years, NBC News has had the pleasure of consulting with Feng Shui master, Chen Shuaifu, the 61-year old chairman of the Chinese Feng Shui Association, which has more than 50,000 members. For all zodiac signs, Chen says 2014 should be the year to travel. “Horses are legendary for their ability to run long distances on great journeys,” he says.
