On PBS Create they run a show by the same name as this posting. It is funny but when I first watched the program it caught me off guard how people would say reading a book or having a cup of tea leisurely in the afternoon is a moment of luxury.
Well, I now look for the little things that make a moment of luxury for me. It might be fresh flowers for the table on the weekend or a nap on a Sunday afternoon. Who would have thought that a simple task every three weeks would prove to be a moment of luxury but I have come to realize that getting my hair cut by Ronnel every third Wednesday at 9am is a real moment of luxury for me. He has been cutting my hair now for over two years and I finally asked him where he got his name and it is an old southern name that his mom really liked.
The joy of this day is that I am not in the up and get to the office grind and I can have the extra cup of coffee or relax a few minutes and look at the sunrise. Heck, I even have time to log-in and post a comment to my blog.
So when you thing there is no moments of luxury in your life, pause and look around. For some it might be flying a plane that you always wanted to or for another it is watching a gaggle of geese grow. For my Mom I think it is being able to enjoy her favorite shows in the evening uninterrupted. Yes, it is the times we get to pause and smell the roses that makes life so much sweeter.

ReplyDeleteI'm having that moment of luxury right now! I just got home from an all day work session with a group of teachers attempting to revise our science curriculum. I now sit on my patio with the sun shining through the trees enjoying nature. Yes, the geese are on the pond and the only distraction is the machinery across the way, but nothing is perfect, right? :-)
